Unraveling Inclusiveness in North East India: Lessons from the Experimentation of Indian Gorkhas
This book is the printed form of Annual Lecture IV,” Unraveling Inclusiveness in North East India: Lessons from the Experimentation of Indian Gorkhas“, presented on 26thand 27th September 2014, by Professor Mahendra P Lama, a widely known development economist. In the presentation, he emphasized on the immense contribution of Gurkhas in building modern India, and their struggle to get a permanent constitutional and legal solution for their national identity. The lecture has paved a way to better understand the struggles for rights, government’s programmatic responses and the impact of the same on the marginalized communities in north east India. He pragmatically illustrates how the higher the echelons you move, it is more difficult even to get the applications from the section of the SC and ST population in North East India. So he suggests for building up institutions to link up the capable students with the public service job. He also stresses that without having the leadership of diversified group, the issue of inclusion or proportional representation will not be a success. The Nepali translation “Nepalko laagi sakaratmak bibhed niti”, a compilation of 4 lecture series is also available for the convenience of Nepali readers.
